Parasites thrive by depriving its host from nutrients. Similarly, we have been feeding off the Earth mercilessly. The human mind seeks to maximise from nature’s myriad resources. Today, fear has latched us to our houses. We can’t step out because nature has retaliated to our actions.
Some experts believe, human destruction of biodiversity has created such conditions for new viruses and diseases. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all of mankind is alarmed. But the nature is quite unaffected. In fact, the environment has been blooming. Showing how it would be without the human parasite.
Within a month, the globe saw a 25% reduction in daily energy consumption. NASA was the first to account a change, an aberrant decline of nitrogen oxide in the air. With a halt on automobiles and, most importantly, global economic activity ramping down, rates of greenhouse gases and carbon emission has plunged. Researchers are reporting a drop in the seismic noise as a result of transport and human activities being shut down.
This pandemic brings climate change to sharp focus. A Harvard research has linked air pollution to higher COVID-19 death rates. Human health research seldom considers the surrounding natural ecosystem. But, we must realise, nature’s care is healthcare.
